Using Joomla or WordPress on Your Site

If we search the web, you will find a lot of "fans" of one or the other CMS. One or the other are contained in lots of articles trying to create opinion of the other, as if there was a competition between them and to prove which is the best to use.

However, the majority of those who are facing the dilemma of choosing the best CSM for their project, are not the clients but the web designers. When someone contracts a web designer, tells them what are the features that web design must have and the designer (not in all the cases but depending on the clients) will need to select the platform which will be developing on, taking into account which one will suite to their requirements.

It is obvious that both content management systems are quite different and have different features that are focused in completely different directions.

The point of administration and its simplicity seems to be in favour of WordPress.

When you are trying to make simple web updates (or in other words insertion of a new content), it is very easy to see that WordPress has a big advantage over Joomla on this aspect. In WordPress you can also "find" everything easier you need to administer the web using the administration interface. It is much more user-friendly.

However, users with little knowledge may be inclining towards Joomla as it has more pre-defined solutions that allow better and simpler management. For example the extensions allow a broader configuration, though allowing users have a broader web control.

It is true to say that in WordPress you can have complete control, but it requires some advanced knowledge, not just simple click on radio button or check box.

Ease of programming by inexperienced webmaster

Those who are playing with their first web design will find that Joomla can be overly complicated. Creating a website in Joomla requires good knowledge about this CMS and its multiple configurations as well as you need to have some good knowledge about its most common extensions, which can also be quite complex.

WordPress is without a doubt, the starting point for those entering the development of web pages using content management systems, as it is easier to implement and offers less complexities for its configuration, and can direct most of their effort to design and layout and graphic design, without the need to devote great efforts in programming.

The graphic design of the website is also easier in WordPress.

The Joomla templates are usually much more complex, and it can be frustrating to start to try and modify Joomla rather than a WordPress template.

However, if you are developing a page that will be high in complexity and will contain many different functions Joomla is easier to deploy, and configure since Joomla's components require fairly basic configuration to work properly. A blog with a forum, an online store, a wiki, etc can be installed by using plug-ins and configuring them properly in order to integrate it with Joomla.

When it to generating a web which will be used by several people, Joomla permission system is more comprehensive, and administrator has complete control on activities that can be made, both the front-end and back-end.

Learning

It is proven by inexperienced users to learn quickly to incorporate content into a web using WordPress, however, if you want to learn to control the entire web functions, including extensions and configurations, Joomla is more simpler and intuitive.

Accessories and free themes

Both WordPress and Joomla have a very large and diverse amount of free templates to choose from.

Additional functionality

In this Joomla is leading in front of WordPress, even though in recent times the development of WordPress has tended to increase its functionalities.
