What Are Squeeze Pages?
A squeeze page is very often misunderstood. The biggest error individuals make, is to try to make a sale straight off the squeeze page. This is a definite no, no!
What are squeeze pages?... they serve one purpose - and one purpose only - and that comes down to your list. The squeeze page is specifically designed to build your customer base. A good page is designed to be very simple, in fact, almost sparse. You want to be able to capture a visitor's attention, and for them to react quickly - by taking action - what action? - You want them on your list, they should visit your page, be 'gripped' by your offer, and then fill in their details - usually their email address or email and name.
So if you are not selling on your squeeze page, what are you doing? You are giving your visitor a free gift. Not a junk 'widget' but something of genuine value, the more perceived value the better.
The gift you offer should be relevant to the particular niche, to which you want your visitor to become a customer. So for example, you may offer your visitor a free download of an eBook'... Such as 'CREATE YOUR FIRST WEBSITE BY 3:45 THIS AFTERNOON'
The relevance to your niche of the above - as an example - is that once this potential customer has filled in, and submitted the Page form, they are on your list. The form, is of course integrated with an autoresponder...you can send out broadcasts or set up automated emails to send out to your list over a set period of days. So, you may well send out a regular newsletter for example....relevant to the same niche as the free eBook on 'Creating Your First Website'.
When creating content for a squeeze page you essentially need:
A stand out headline...followed by:
Tell them what it isTell them what it doesTell them how they'll benefitTell them how to get it.... 'submit your name and Email here'At all costs, keep your page simple. Professional looking yes, flashy no. Too many flashing images and click-able links, leads to indecision. Your page should have only three basic elements:
The free gift or giftsThe benefits of the giftsA sign up form to get the gifts...And that is essentially it.
If you do feel the need to put an extra link on a squeeze page so they are re-directed somewhere else...always make sure you set it to open in a 'new-window' so they don't click away from your Page.
Another thing you should consider for your Page is video and/or audio...this is a definite attention grabber and done in the correct way, has been shown to increase sign ups.
The key lesson to take away from this article...is 'DO NOT TRY TO SELL ON YOUR SQUEEZE PAGE'. Your page has only one purpose, it is a 'front-face' to attract potential customers to join your list.
Another point to remember, when setting up your autoresponder form....is to never ask for more information than email address and name, by default. The more information you ask for on the form, the less sign ups you'll get. The most that should be compulsory for them to opt-in is email and name, any other form fields should be optional. The exception of course, is if you will be sending goods to their real address.
Building squeeze pages for blogs used to be difficult. But now you can get plenty of good plugins that mean this is no longer a hurdle. WordPress in particular has good plugins.... and some of third-party themes such as 'Socrates' for example: allow you to easily create squeeze pages.
One small tip to end on: the Tahoma font for headlines and the Georgia font for content, look very pleasing to the eye, on squeeze pages and indeed, on websites in general.
